'Doctor Who' Season 10 Cast News: The World Awaits for the Announcement of the 12th Doctor's New Companion

The long wait is finally over; BBC will finally be introducing Clara Oswald's (Jenna Coleman) replacement as the companion to the 12 Doctor in the hit adventure drama TV series, "Doctor Who," this Saturday, Apr. 23.

According to the network's official website, the identity of the person in question will be revealed exclusively during the half-time of the FA Cup semi-finals match between Everton and Manchester United at 6 p.m. BST (1 p.m. ET).

Fans from all over the world have been speculating lately the possibility that showrunner Steven Moffat could be pulling someone from the ranks of established Doctor Who characters. Others even went to specify names like Ashildr (Maisie Williams) and Osgood (Ingrid Oliver). However, that won't be the case at all.

In an interview, series actor Peter Capaldi told Brazilian website Omelete (with translation provided over by NME) that "a new companion" will be announced soon and that he knew who as he had already done "a bit of work together" with the person in question.

"Obviously I know who that is and we've been doing a bit of work together already and it's very exciting," he said. "Because it's a very different sort of take on it."

When asked further how this new sidekick becomes different to that of Oswald's alter-ego, Capaldi said: "Clara had prior knowledge of the Doctor. It was conceived as a human connected to your timeline, and so had access to the cosmic nature of the Doctor."

"She understood a little about how he was. And as she was already with Matt [Smith], she knew the Daleks and the TARDIS. Now we have someone who knows very little about the Doctor," the 58-year-old said.

As expected, the new companion will join Capaldi and the rest of the cast when "Doctor Who" returns to television later in 2016. Stay tuned for more updates.
