'Game of Thrones' Season 5 Spoilers: Showrunners Hint at Next Season, Reflect on 'Terrifying' Finale
"Game of Thrones" season four wrapped up last month, but fans are already anxiously anticipating next year.
Offering reflections on the action-packed and shocking season four finale, "GOT" showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss admitted that the closer broke new ground for the HBO series.
"This season, almost every storyline ended up peaking in the finale, which has never been the case for us before," the creators said, according to Deadline. "It was great, knowing we'd be going out on so many climactic events. It was also terrifying."

The finale, entitled "The Children," saw several shocking deaths of both beloved and detested "GOT" characters. For example, Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) killed his lover Shay after realizing her affair with his father, Tywin (Charles Dance), before going after Tywin as well.
"Both basic confrontations, Tyrion/Shay and Tyrion/Tywin have their source in the books," the executive producers added, referring to the novels by George R. R. Martin. "It feels like the people who haven't read the books [were] probably surprised by both scenes."
"To see Tyron's entire, troubles relationship with his father distilled into three minutes, that's a lot of weight to put on two characters," Benioff and Weiss continued. "It was our good fortune that the two actors in question were Peter and Charles, who are both power-lifters in this category."
Today, season five of "GOT" is already in production in Belfast. While Benioff and Weiss were tight-lipped about the new season, the pair did point to possible future alliances and outcomes when they revealed that Tyrion's ship from King's Landing was heading "east," which indicates Essos.
Meanwhile, "GOT" has become HBO's most-watched television series of all time. The series is expected to be back with season five next spring.
