Google Nexus Prime Release: Details Leaked Ahead of Oct. 19 Samsung Hong Kong Event

Google and Samsung's Hong Kong event, where Android's new Ice Cream Sandwich operating system and the Korean company's new cellphone will be unveiled, is only a few hours from getting underway, but that has not stopped some from spilling the beans.

Engadget reported Tuesday that Japan's NTT DoCoMo has leaked details about when the Nexus Prime, the speculated name of Samsung Electronic's new smartphone, would be on sale.

"Today, the provider confirmed that it'll be 'among the fastest' to bring the new handset to market, adding that the Nexus Prime will be on sale in November," Engadget reported.

According to TFTS, at Nexus404.com, information has also leaked about when Canadian users can expect to get their hands on the Galaxy Nexus, the other speculated name for Samsung's new handset.

"The details that we have seen up until this point include word from Samsung Canada about a Canadian release of Ice Cream Sandwich as well as a look at the Galaxy Nexus that comes with further confirmation in terms of specs," TFTS reported.

Samsung reportedly revealed the information in an email to the media.

"The coolest Samsung smartphone will be coming to Canada soon. Stay tuned for additional information regarding launch date and availability in the coming weeks," the email read, according to TFTS.

TFTS also had on its website an image of the what the new "Galaxy Nexus Prime" might look like.

Ice Cream Sandwich is said to be the first version of the Android technology to be used on both mobile phones and tablets.

For those who do not have a special invitation to Hong Kong, Android will be live streaming the event through Google's YouTube network at youtube.com/android. Due to the time difference, however, viewers in the United States should log onto the Internet beginning at 10 p.m. EDT (7 p.m. PDT) Tuesday night.
