'Gran Turismo: Sport' Debuts at the Top of UK Sales Chart
Sony's latest racing game zoomed to the top of the charts in U.K. for a rousing debut.
According to the latest results of the weekly sales monitored by GfK Chart-Track, "Gran Turismo: Sport" barged into the top of the charts for the week ending on Oct. 21. The game took the top spot from erstwhile leader "FIFA 18" from EA, which is now relegated to number two.
Chart-Track noted that the game registered a stronger finish in terms of sales compared to some of its predecessors, namely, the original "Gran Turismo" and "Gran Turismo 6." Despite the impressive debut, Chart-Track said the game still fell short against another title from the franchise as it was "nowhere near the series high of 2010's Gran Turismo 5."
Another title that made an impressive debut was "South Park: The Fractured But Whole" by Ubisoft, which landed at the third spot. Following it was 2K's "WWE 2K18," which also made its first appearance in the UK top 10.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. Interactive's "Middle-Earth: Shadow of War" slipped to number five after holding the second spot last week. Another dropper was "The Evil Within 2" from Bethesda, which slipped to number six from last week's number three. Bungie's "Destiny 2" likewise dropped in the rankings, finishing seventh after being last week's number six.
Rounding out U.K.'s best selling games are Rockstar's "Grand Theft Auto V," Microsoft's "Forza Motorsport 7," and Activision's "Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy," finishing in the eighth, ninth, and 10th, respectively.
Meanwhile, Gamespot noted that Chart-Track's list only counts the physical sales with the exclusion of digital sales.
Other notable games that entered the charts for the very first time include Nintendo's "Fire Emblem Warriors" at number 16, THQ Nordic's "Elex" at number 25, and Blizzard's "Overwatch: Game of the Year Edition" at number 30. "Lego City Undercover" registered a huge jump, finishing number 17 from last week's 31st spot finish.
On the flipside, some of the biggest droppers include "Forza Horizon 3" down seven spots at number 12 and "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy at number 23 from last week's number 16.
