Grandma, 90, Had Standoff With Shotgun: SWAT Team Called for Eleouise Adcock (VIDEO)

A grandma, 90, had a shotgun standoff with construction workers outside her home Thursday, according to reports. Eleouise Adcock of Channelview, Texas was upset with the construction workers for continually dumping dirt into a barge behind her home, so she refused to give up her weapon for four hours before a SWAT team could finally talk her down.

The 90-year-old great-grandmother's shotgun standoff began that morning around 10 a.m. with Adcock sitting on her porch with the weapon on her lap. The construction workers were digging up dirt but felt threatened, and they called Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Thomas Gilliland to the scene.

However, Deputy Gilliland and other police officers were unable to negotiate with the elderly woman, so they called in a SWAT team to handle the situation. They attempted to reason with her for about four hours, according to reports.

"She talked for a little while [with an officer], she came and went back into the home, came back outside and at that point she put the shotgun down," Gilliland told KRPC news.

After that the SWAT team placed her on a stretcher and took her to a local hospital for a psychological evaluation. The shotgun was taken by police officers, KRPC reported.

The construction workers had been following the directives of a river barge company that bought all the land surrounding Adcock's home. Adcock has lived on the San Jacinto River for 40 years and is the last holdout in the area who refuses to sell her home. This wasn't the first time she had threatened the workers with her 12-gauge shotgun.

"They didn't tell anyone about it the first few times," Gilliland explained. "This time they felt she was much more angry about them being here working and excavating dirt."

The senior citizen will not have any charges filed against her for the incident.
