The HTC One and Galaxy S4 mini models feature 4.3-inch displays. The original HTC One comes with a 4.7-inch screen and the Galaxy S4 boasts a 5-inch display. Both of the mini models are not that much smaller than the originals and also have a 1080p resolution. HTC beats out Samsung in the ppi department. The One Mini has a S-LCD3 display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 at 341 ppi. The S4 only comes with a 960 x 540 Super AMOLED display with a pixel density of 256 ppi.

Processor

Samsung and HTC chose to downgrade the specifications of these mini models to dual-core processors, opposed to the quad-core and octa-core chips found in the originals. Both use Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipsets, however, Samsung could have a slight advantage with running it since the higher resolution screen on the HTC One will dial down the clock speed on it. Samsung's display allows the processor to run at full speed.

RAM also must be taken into account. The HTC One mini comes with 1GB RAM while the Galaxy S4 mini packs 1.5GB, giving it a slight edge. However, 1GB is more than enough to get the job done for the average smartphone user.

Camera

The Galaxy S4 comes with an 8-megapixel camera while the HTC One mini boasts a 4-megapixel shooter with Ultrapixels and HTC Zoe. The HTC camera will capture more light making the overall quality of the photos pretty good. The comparison with the two is similar to pitting the original models against one another since the Ultrapixels boost the 8MP shooter found on the HTC One to compete with the 13MP found on the Galaxy S4.

Design

The HTC One mini and Galaxy S4 mini closely resemble their bigger variants which means HTC would probably win this one hands down as the company uses metal and glass for the device's exterior as opposed to the cheap plastic casing found on the S4.

Conclusion

The HTC One mini will offer a better overall look with its higher resolution display and classier exterior design. The specs chosen for the Galaxy S4 mini will be less draining on the device's processor so performance may be slightly better. The choice here comes down to looks vs. efficiency.
