Huawei Keeps up with Trend, Unveils Virtual Reality-Style Headset for P9

It didn't take long for Chinese smart phone manufacturer Huawei to finally join the bandwagon in integrating virtual reality to their consumer products. During an event in Shanghai where its two flagship phones – P9 and P9 Plus were announced, the crowd was treated with a surprise with the unveiling of the Huawei VR.

A report from Forbes says that the new VR headset from the Chinese electronics brand actually looks very similar to the industry leader, Samsung's Gear VR headset and that the new device is actually exclusive for the two P9 smartphones. So it made perfect sense to make a surprise announcement during the same time the new phones were unveiled, giving consumers more reason to be interested.

Also, the headset is said to be also compatible to the Huawei Mate 8, which certainly is good news for those who already own the earlier launched smart phone.

Product Highlights

And since the Huawei VR headset is built with striking resemblance to that of Samsung's version, it is expected to be equipped with the same features and specs, too. For instance, there's a touchpad conveniently located on the right side of the device, the purpose of which is for the user to easily navigate in a particular virtual reality app. Meanwhile, above it is the back button. However, it does have a 20 millisecond low latency and a 95-degree field of view, both of which are lower compared to its South Korean counterpart.

Furthermore, one of the good things about this device is that the lenses can be adjusted. But more interestingly, there's an anti-blue light filter that Huawei reveals is intended for those who want to minimize the stress in their eyes when using the headset longer than usual.

But for the manufacturer, the main selling point of the product is the support for 3D sound, to which it claims is a first in the industry.
