Katy Perry, John Mayer Split Caused by Texts From 'Random Girl'?

Katy Perry's recent split from John Mayer undoubtedly surprised fans and a new report suggests cheating may have played a role in their breakup.

On Wednesday insiders claimed Perry, 29, initiated the split from Mayer, 36, and photos of a moving truck seen outside of the pop star's home on Feb. 26 did little to dispel the reports. While the pair has not publicly confirmed their split, a new report claims Mayer may be to blame.

"[Katy] found text messages on John's phone from some random girl," a source told The New York Post's Page Six adding the split was "mutual" and "extremely amicable."

The "Who You Love" duo showed no signs of strain on Valentine's day when they were photographed enjoying a romantic dinner date which has some critics concluding that their split was very recent and abrupt.

Perry, who dated the singer on-and-off since 2012, kicks off her Prismatic world tour in May, which is also said to have played a role in their decision to part ways.

"She's stressed about the tour, they've been fighting. It is probably for the best, because she is going to be on tour for forever," a source told Us magazine.

The pair split briefly last year before reconciling, which has some fans speculating that their latest breakup may be temporary.

"Of course this happens all the time, I can't keep track anymore. But for now they are done," the source said, with another adding, "Not sure how long it will last this time but yes, it is off for now."

Prior to Mayer, the "Roar" singer was married to British actor Russell Brand, however, they divorced in 2012. Mayer was previously linked to Jennifer Aniston and Jessica Simpson among other Hollywood stars.

Perry once attributed her brief split from Mayer to her difficult divorce from Brand, 38. The pair wed in 2010 and split after 14 months.

"I took a break from my boyfriend, not one that I wanted. It was like a splash of cold water to search inward on what was going on with me," Perry told the January issue of Marie Claire.

"That is what led me to this new awakening, this realizing, 'If I don't do some self-love, I'm not going to be able to keep the love that I want,'" she explained. "I still needed to deal with all of my ex-husband stuff. I hadn't. It's almost like if I kept talking about it, it would seem like I actually cared about it. I don't."
