Latest on MacBook Pro 2016: Battery Life Problems, New LG UltraFine 4K Monitor
The MacBook Pro 2016 is Apple's latest flagship notebooks. It offers new features never before seen in a laptop, including a new OLED touch screen for some models that sits on top of the keyboard, where the function keys used to be situated. Here are some of the latest news about the MacBook Pro 2016.
1. Battery Life Problem
A couple of users have claimed that their new MacBook Pro devices have shorter than expected battery lives. These are the latest notebooks from Apple that contain the OLED Touch Bar above the keyboard.
In fact, some users claimed that their MacBook Pro notebooks empty out three to six hours after getting fully charged. Apple advertised that the MacBook Pro has a 10-hour battery life.
In an online forum, a user said that when she browsed the Internet using Google Chrome, the battery life runs out after 3 hours. If the user used it to play games, the battery runs out even faster. Other claims have an average of 5 -6.5 hours, but never near 10 hours as advertised.
While battery life complaints are common each time a new Apple product is released, some speculate that this new problem could be due to the company's decision to switch to AMD Radeon Pro GPU from Integrated Intel graphics. The former is more power hungry while the latter is more efficient.
To monitor your battery, there are several third party apps you can use like Coconut Battery. Apple also has its built in Activity Monitor for that purpose.
Online review from Tech Crunch have put the 13-inch MacBook Pro model's battery life at 9 hours and 35 minutes. The same is true for a review from the Wall Street Journal.
2. LG UltraFine 4K Monitors Great for MacBook Pro
LG and Apple worked together to create a monitor that fits well with the new MacBook devices. This new monitor is called the LG UltraFine 4K and is a 27-inch monitor that is perfect for MacBooks equipped with USB-C ports.
The LG UltraFine 4K has four USB Type C ports for output and input. One of the ports are responsible for two things: providing power and receiving display signal.
Another model, the LG UltraFine 5K, has the Thunderbolt 3 interface, which makes it compatible with the MacBook Pro models.
LG UltraFine 4K 21.5 inch monitors are priced at $524, which you can purchase through Apple.com. While the price is relatively hefty, the image quality and the high resolution provided by this monitor is worth it.
