Tony Romo News: Dallas Cowboys Haven't Put Quarterback on IR
The Dallas Cowboys are 3-8 so far, with the NFL regular season almost done. Surprisingly, though, team officials are quite optimistic that they're going to reach the postseason, manifested by their most recent action of declining to place injured star quarterback on IR, the reason is, according to the team, is because they want him to lead the Cowboys in their playoff run.
It is still statistically possible for Dallas to make a run for it, but they're a long shot, with the Redskins currently leading the NFC East division at 5-6, while the Seahawks (6-5) currently have the tiebreaker advantage over them.
But there also might be good reason why the team wants and hopes Romo to return — for them to at least try to win their last two games against the Redskins.
So far, Dallas hasn't won a single game without Romo in the lineup. That's how desperate they are to see their quarterback grace the field once again.
The team's primary concern, though, is that it really is almost impossible for them to reach the playoffs at this point. But should they make a push and get there, there still is no guarantee that the 35-year-old will be able to return. His injured collarbone has been bothering him for the second time this season, first in late September and then during Thanksgiving Day.
Team owner Jerry Jones said on Friday that his prized quarterback will be missing the remaining games of the regular season, but not putting him on IR means that he will be eligible to play in the playoffs.
NFL's Wild Card Weekend is scheduled on Jan. 9-10, while the NFC championship game is scheduled on the 24th. Based on those schedules, Dallas is hoping that Romo has enough time to get healthy. The lingering question, though, is if they can actually make it to the playoffs.
