Los Angeles Rams roster news: Greg Zuerlein signs new one-year deal

Although kicker Greg Zuerlein had to endure the worst year of his career last season, the free agent managed to convince the Los Angeles Rams that he deserves another shot at making an impact. After several weeks of silence and speculations, the Rams finally gave him a one-year deal on Friday.

Zuerlein himself knew for a fact that last season could have ended his career in the league, and nobody's going to like what he did when he ranked 35th out of 37 kickers in field goal percentage. He actually converted 20 of the 30 attempts, but it just implies that there are several other kickers out there who performed better than him. "Anytime you go out there and miss kicks, you are not going to be happy about it," he told ESPN after the end of the season. He added that he needs to do a better job of converting those kicks next time.

The only positive thing that went in for the 28-year old last season was when he converted a 61-yard field goal in a regular season game against the Minnesota Vikings, breaking a team record in the process.

His stint with the team was threatened right after the season ended for the Rams, when Coach Jeff Fisher was quoted as saying that they are going to be looking for other options to compete with Zuerlein for the kicking job. However, it turns out he's the only kicker in the roster thus far.

The 28-year old was drafted by the Rams in the sixth round of the 2012 NFL Draft. He performed well in the first four years of his career, where he averaged 78.2 percent in a total of 119 field goal attempts. He in fact reached almost 93% in field goal percentage in this third year in the league.
