'Narcos Season 3' Remains Generally Accurate, Says Ex-Cali Cartel Member

Living up to fan expectations, "Narcos" season 3 is, no doubt, off to a rousing start, as it shifts from the Pablo Escobar-led Medellin Cartel to the Cali Cartel. Apart from the excellent acting, the show can also thank the series' accuracy in providing the public a narrative of what really took place during the period.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Jorge Salcedo, a former member of the Cali Cartel, shared his thoughts on the show's accuracy. Salcedo served as the group's head of security who eventually became an informant that nearly took down the cartel on his own.

"The story in general remains the same [as the truth]," shared Salcedo. He noted, however, that his character was made more attractive. "I saw one episode, the first or something, where they pull apart one bad guy with two motorcycles. I will say, though it's horrendous, it's not far from the [actual] happenings," he explained.

"They did that the same. Not with Harleys, they used two Land Cruisers. I wasn't there, but I had people who were actually in the execution of these things," Salcedo added.

He also recalled the details of an intense scene where he was taken to a farmhouse for what he thought was a meeting with Miguel Rodriguez. The meeting in the place they called "The Desert," as it turned out, was actually an execution.

He shared that he was assigned as a lookout and recalled that he started to hear some screaming. He thought about the reason why he was brought there — if it was like a test of loyalty or courage. "But whatever it was, I got the picture. They could do this to anybody. To me, to anybody. It doesn't matter if you're a wife or anyone. They could to do it to me," he said.

Meanwhile, The Independent reported that the son of Pablo Escobar, Sebastian Marroquin, tagged "Narcos" as insulting. Marroquin listed down 28 errors that he found in the show and posted them on his Facebook account.

"Narcos" season 3 is currently available on Netflix.
