Nintendo Boosts Switch Production, Reaches 2 Million Units a Month

With the holiday season at hand, Nintendo had earlier confirmed that they are bent on meeting the demands of the public for their flagship console. It looks like the gaming giant means all business this time as it goes overdrive on the production side.

According to a DigiTimes report, Nintendo has ramped up its production of the Switch console to a whopping two million units a month. The move is projected to cover the incoming demand toward the end of the year, as well as the rising clamor for the Nintendo Switch in Asian countries.

The company is also targeting 20 million units by the end of 2017, as shared by some sources coming from the upstream supply chain, the report added.

Nintendo has been enjoying the fruits of the game's massive success since its launching in March. Three months later, the company has already sold about 4.7 million units. Today, stocks are still running low in Japan. Gamers in Taiwan, however, will have to wait until December of this year before fresh stocks come in.

As for the reason of the low supplies, the sources shared that the cause is the availability of key components such as the DRAM.

Last September, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said in an interview with Mashable that they actually overshot their production of the console during its launching. "We actually sold through almost 2.8 million units, so we dramatically over delivered," said Fils-Aime.

"So what do some of the consumers on Reddit say? 'Gosh, Nintendo, if you would've made more you would've sold more.' Well, we did make more! And certainly we're on a pace to supply in the current fiscal year 10 million units," he added.

Meanwhile, the NPD Group 's latest data had the Nintendo Switch emerge as the best-selling console for the month of August. VentureBeat reported that Switch took the leadership in every month since its launching except for May and June where the Sony PlayStation 4 came out on top.
