Nintendo Unveils New 2DS XL in Orange and White During Nintendo Direct Briefing

Gamers who are looking to purchase one of Nintendo's popular handheld consoles will have another option to choose from.

In a Nintendo Direct briefing last Friday, the gaming giant revealed a new color scheme for the New 2DS XL: orange and white. The new variant will be available in the U.S. on Oct. 6 and will retail for $150.

Based on the images released by Nintendo, the handheld console will sport a dominant white color with orange borders on the cover. The D-pad and buttons, like the borders, will also be in orange.

According to Gamespot, the orange and white New 2DS XL is the second variant announced during the Nintendo Direct stream. The first is the Pokemon-themed New 2DS XL, which draws inspiration from the famous Poke Ball from the Pokemon franchise. Just like the standard New 2DS XL, the Pokemon-themed version comes with the clamshell design with an upper portion that looks like a Poke Ball.

The Pokemon-inspired handheld console will be available on Nov. 3, two weeks before the release of "Pokemon Ultra Sun" and "Ultra Moon."

In other Nintendo news, the company also confirmed the addition of the Arcade Archives into the Switch console. The Arcade Archives works as a game port for classic titles that ruled the arcades in the past. Nintendo did not reveal other concrete details but unveiled some of the titles under the new feature.

Gamers will get to enjoy classic games like "Super Mario Bros.," "VS. Ice Climber," "VS. Balloon Fight," "VS. Clu Clu Land," "VS. Pinball," and "Punch Out." The Arcade Archives will launch on September 27, with "Super Mario Bros." as its launch title.

Meanwhile, Nintendo is also bent on increasing its Switch production in time for the demands of the holiday season. In a statement to The Wall Street Journal, the company confirmed that it is targeting to ship around 10 million units once its fiscal year ends in March of 2018.

"We will ramp up production for the holiday period, which has been factored into our forecast," said Nintendo.
