'Once Upon a Time' Season 5 Episode 5 Spoilers and Episode 4 Recap: Arthur's Past Is Revealed

In the forthcoming episode of "Once Upon a Time" entitled "Dreamcatcher," the official synopsis reads, "In Camelot, as Mary Margaret and David attempt to retrieve the Dark One dagger, Emma uses a dreamcatcher to look into the past to see how Merlin was transformed into a tree. Together, Emma and Regina figure out the critical ingredient they must acquire to free Merlin, but it's a race against Arthur, who does not want Merlin released. Meanwhile, with encouragement from his moms, Henry musters up the courage to ask Violet on a date. Back in Storybrooke, the heroes break into Emma's house hoping to locate Gold, but what they find will give them a glimpse of Emma's end game. Far from prying eyes, Merida sets about the mission Emma has tasked her with and begins molding Gold into the hero they need to draw Excalibur."

In a promo for the episode, it seems that Emma will do anything in order to turn Gold into the hero that the town needs. Unfortunately, Gold does not believe that he can be a hero and Merida tries to make him believe.

In the preceding episode, it began in Camelot many years ago when a young Arthur told a young Guinevere that he would become a king one day. Arthur told her about what Merlin had said about the sword in the stone. Arthur found the sword, but the tip broke off, and when he showed it to the people, he only showed a part of the hilt and still everyone cheered.

In the present day, Arthur was brooding in the castle. He showed David the broken sword and he told him that the dagger of the dark one was the missing piece of his sword. He could fix his sword and he wanted David's help in that quest.

Emma was being bothered by shadow Rumple and she found her dagger in Regina's room. The others began to worry about her state of mind. David wanted to give Arthur the dagger since he could help them, but Mary does not trust Arthur because of a warning that was given by Lancelot.

Mary and David argued about how to help Emma. In the past, Arthur became so obsessed with finding the dagger that he neglected his wife even on her birthday. Lancelot was there for Guinevere when she needed it the most.

David told Arthur the truth about why they were in Camelot. Mary went to Lancelot. Later on, David and Mary reconciled and created a plan with Lancelot's help. Arthur and Guinevere called Lancelot a traitor and had him tossed in the dungeon where he met Merida.

The episode ended with Emma as she talked to Merida who she had tied up in the back of her car about turning a coward into someone brave.

"Once Upon a Time" airs every Sunday.
