'Pokemon GO' Latest News: New In-Game Equinox Event Now Live
Hit mobile game "Pokemon GO" has made a mark in creating different kinds of themed events. With the equinox rolling out, players will get another treat to usher in the event.
In a post on the game's official blog site, Niantic Labs announced an in-game event to celebrate a brand new season. "With cool autumn nights quickly approaching in the Northern Hemisphere and sunny spring days arriving in the Southern Hemisphere, we thought it would be the perfect time to celebrate the coming equinox with an in-game event," Niantic wrote.
The Equinox event, which started today, Sept. 22, will run until Oct. 2. Trainers who will catch Pokemon and hatch Eggs during the period will get double Stardust. Moreover, players can also get the chance to hatch different kinds of Pokemon like Chansey, Mareep, Larvitar, to name a few. Players just need to visit the Gyms and local PokeStops to pick up the special 2-kilometer Eggs.
Furthermore, there will also be special boxes from the in-game shop that carry Lure Modules, Lucky Eggs, and the Super Incubators. The new set of Incubators enables Eggs to hatch faster by 1.5 times.
"Registering a new Pokémon to your Pokédex during this limited-time celebration will earn you triple the normal XP," Niantic added.
Meanwhile, Forbes noted that the Stardust bonus is likely the most valuable among the bunch. They pointed that it's one of the few items that cannot be collected by joining raids. Moreover, it is also an integral item when it comes to upgrading the Pokemon.
In other Pokemon news, Nintendo recently announced in a Nintendo Direct live stream that a limited edition Pokemon-themed New 2DS XL will come out on Nov. 3. The handheld console still comes with the standard clamshell but with its top part carrying the design of a Poke Ball.
The device comes out just two weeks before the release of "Pokemon Ultra Sun" and "Pokemon Ultra Moon" on Nov. 17.
