Elliot had gone the length of letting everyone believe that he's after Alison when in fact, it's his and Mary's plan to get close to the enemies.

This was confirmed by executive producer Marlene King who, in her latest conversation with Variety said that the Elliot-Charlotte storyline will be given weight in the new installment.

"There is a rich history there between Charlotte and the character that we know as Elliot Rollins, and we'll learn a lot more about that in Season 7 and why Rollins is doing what he's doing," King told the media outlet.

The exec, however, hinted that there might be some hurdles with regards to the casting that the show might encounter in Season 7. Vanessa Ray, who plays Charlotte in the series, is quite busy with her schedule on CBS' police procedural series "Blue Bloods." But nonetheless, King and the crew really intend to feature some flashbacks about the two aforementioned characters.

As for the the new season, the showrunner promised, "Season 7 is really the fastest-moving season we've ever had. It moves even quicker than Seasons 1 and 2, and you're going to get answers almost on an episode-by-episode basis."
