PS4 $10 Game Upgrade Explained in More Detail by Sony

Sony is clarifying the PS4 $10 upgrade process for gamers who want to move up to the next generation versions of PS3 games. Initially announced at Gamescom, many gamers still had a number of questions on how it would actually work.

So far the trade up program involves Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, Watch Dogs, and Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag. These games will be out at the same time on both the Playstation 3 and 4.

For people who have the physical copy of the game, a code will be included on the box that can be redeemed at the PlayStation Store online. Upon receiving a PS4, the user will then log in the same account for the PS3, and the game will be available for $9.99.

Perhaps as a safety feature to prevent users from selling off their old games; the new PS4 version of the game will only be playable if the disc from the PS3 version is also in the console.

If purchasing the game for the PS3 digitally, there will be no code, reports IGN.com. The game will automatically be available to the gamer in the online store once they sign in with the PS4.

PlayStation 4 is also offering some cool download tricks for gamers with a smartphone. Users that link their console with their smartphone can order a game and have it download while they are not home.

Shuhei Yoshida, Sony President of Worldwide Studios, made the announcement via Twitter.

"When you buy a PS4 game on smartphone, it will wake your PS4 up to start downloading the game. PS4 goes back to sleep after that," he tweeted.

The PS4 will launch on Nov. 15.
