Ronda Rousey Knockout at UFC 193 News: After Knockout Defeat, Rousey Taken to Hospital
The entire mixed martial arts world was shocked and left in awe when unheralded challenger Holly Holm knocked out Ronda Rousey at UFC 193 in Australia to steal the UFC women's bantamweight championship. The once undefeated Rousey received a brutal kick to the neck, followed by a flurry of punches in the second round, effectively ending the fight.
And while everyone is paying attention to the new female fighter sensation, the proud Rousey was brought to a nearby hospital to have her busted lips stitched and get further evaluation after the brutal knockout.
According to UFC President Dana White, Rousey appeared to be fine without suffering any major injury or health scare.
Talking to Fox Sports, though, he said, "I thought she broke her jaw in there," referring to the viciousness of the punches that were thrown by the former boxing champion Holm.
The defeat not only means that Rousey now has suffered her very first loss of her career, she also parted ways with the bantamweight championship she'd been holding for quite some time now.
Prior to the fight, no one was expecting Holm to carry the fight to the former champion, but she proved that her experience in the squared ring mattered in fighting the overly aggressive Rousey smartly.
The new champion saw great opportunity to finish off the American judoka expert when she landed a kick in between the neck and head area. However, the finishing blows came from her hands, to which she has been relying in all those years as a boxing pro.
Rousey was left in a daze and lying on the floor after the series of punches, leaving even White to be in total disbelief. The concern of fight officials about her suffering from a major injury prompted them to call someone to take her to the nearest hospital for more investigation.
