'Skyrim' Latest News: Game's Tough and Challenging Survival Mode DLC to Come Soon

Fans of "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition" who are looking for a tougher challenge don't need to wait very long.

The new DLC features new challenges and elements that will make life harder for gamers. "Survival Mode adds new gameplay features and challenges to transform Skyrim into a land of unrelenting cold and harsh wilderness," wrote Bethesda in a post.

Players can expect "treacherous climate zones" and three key elements that will post the biggest challenges, namely, hunger, fatigue, and harsh weather. The hunger factor makes the players' character need food, resulting in lowered stamina and weapon-wielding abilities. To counter hunger, players must feed their characters until they receive a Well Fed bonus.

Fatigue, on the other hand, affects the players' available magicka, which means potions will become less effective. To counter battle fatigue, the characters must take periodic dozes in a bed. The Well Rested bonus, however, is no longer automatically given in Survival Mode. "If you sleep outside, you will not be able to get a restful night's sleep, waking up Drained at best. If you sleep in a bed indoors, you will receive the Well Rested bonus," Bethesda explained.

As for the harsh weather, players will get affected by extreme cold, warmth, and freezing water. Moreover, fast travel is also disabled in Survival Mode, which forces players to walk on foot, ride a horse, or through a boat or carriage to reach their desired destination.

Furthermore, health regeneration is also canceled, and old and new diseases, as well as afflictions, will be more punishing in the DLC. Additionally, players will no longer receive a free cure for diseases when they go to shrines. They must first make a gold offering before the shrine grants healing.

Meanwhile, Mashable noted that Bethesda did not indicate how much the DLC will cost once the week-long free trial period is over. As a result, fans have reportedly posted their grievances on social media, saying that the developers are already using modders' ideas.

"The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition" launches in November, alongside the new DLC, which will be free during the game's first week of release.
