SNES-Themed New 3DS XL Announced, Set to Arrive in the US Next Month

Nintendo made sure that gamers in the United States will not be left out with the latest version of its handheld console.

According to a report from IGN, the gaming giant is set to release the SNES-themed New 3DS XL in the U.S. on Nov. 27. The console will sport the classic grey and purple colors that are best associated with the SNES console back in the 1990s.

The handheld is currently up for pre-order exclusively on the Amazon website with a $199 USD price tag. The official product description says it "combines next-generation portable gaming" and "plays all Nintendo DS games." Nintendo DS games, however, will not come out in 3D, the description clarified.

Moreover, the New 3DS XL Super NES Edition also comes with a download code for the "Super Mario Kart."

Meanwhile, Gamespot noted that the SNES-themed New 3DS XL that's slated to arrive carries a different appearance compared to the one released earlier in Europe. The European version carries the colors and design elements of the Super Famicom, which was the SNES' counterpart in Japan back in the 90s.

The New 3DS XL is not the only handheld console that has limited edition releases. Earlier this month, Nintendo launched the New 2DS XL in Orange and White colors for $150. The console featured a dominant white body with orange borders on the cover, as well as on the D-pad.

Furthermore, Nintendo is also set to launch a Pokemon-themed New 2DS XL on Nov. 3. The handheld draws inspiration from the Poke Ball, which is one of the most iconic items from the Pokemon franchise. It will feature a clamshell design with the upper portion paying homage to the Poke Ball.

Interestingly, the Poke Ball-themed New 2DS XL will set the stage the upcoming release of the "Pokemon Ultra Sun" and "Pokemon Ultra Moon." The two games are slated to roll out two weeks after the release of the handheld console.
