Sony Announces New DualShock 4 Controller Clad in Orange

PlayStation 4 (PS4) owners in Australia and Europe will soon get to enjoy playing their favorite games using a new controller with a nice sunset-inspired touch.

In a post on the official PlayStation Blog, Sony announced the newest DualShock 4 wireless controller, launching on Nov.14. The special edition controller comes in a Sunset Orange color that gives players a warm vibe while playing throughout the cold winter season.

"The controller's two-toned design offers a stylishly contrasted look as the vibrant orange of the controller's front is complimented by the dark purple buttons, sticks and back," described Sony. The latest edition of the DualShock 4 controller will be available in select markets from the two regions.

Sony clarified, however, that the Sunset Orange controller will not be "available to purchase from UK and Ireland, France, Poland, Russia and Middle East and Africa." It also comes with a price tag of AU$100 while pricing for the other regions has yet to be announced.

Moreover, it also joins a growing collection of standalone iterations of the PS4 controllers that include Gold and Silver, Crystal range, Destiny 2, Gran Turismo Sport, and PlayStation F.C.

Meanwhile, Gamespot reported that Sony also introduced the Mini Wired Gamepad for PS4. The controller is manufactured by Hori and is officially-licensed and "designed with younger gamers in mind," said Sony. The Gamepad is 40 percent smaller than the standard DualShock 4 and features a simpler form factor and sports a flat design that makes it easier to handle for gamers with small hands.

As for the price tag, it costs $29.99 USD, which makes it an excellent affordable alternative to the regular controller without sacrificing the essential functions required in PS4 games. It also comes with a 10-foot cable plus all the basics: R1/L1/R2/L2 buttons, directional buttons, action buttons, and the left and right sticks.

Unlike the regular DualShock 4 controller, however, the Mini Wired Gamepad does not have a touchpad. Despite this, the controller features touch pad inputs that can be simulated by gamers by using the left and right sticks.

The Mini Wired Gamepad comes out in the holiday season in the U.S. and in Canada.
