Sony Xperia Z Release Date Coming Soon for a Major U.S. Carrier

The Sony Xperia Z release date should be coming soon for a major U.S. carrier, according to Sony's CEO Kaz Hirai.

The Xperia Z should be quite popular in the US, as it has done well internationally. It was the top-selling smartphone for six weeks straight in Japan.

It is suspected that the first carrier to offer this smartphone could very well be T-Mobile. So far there is no word on an exact release date.

The device was also recently spotted passing through the FCC. This version of the Xperia Z included a T-Mobile branded user manual that highlighted the carrier's specific features such as Wi-Fi calling. The device's documentation confirms the presence of both AWS LTE and pentaband HSPA+, which further confirms that this will be a T-Mobile device.

The unlocked version of the Sony Xperia Z went on sale in the U.S. last month. This model can now be purchased through Sony's U.S. web site for $629.99.

The Xperia Z has been a tremendous success for Sony as the company was able to to move 4.6 million units in its first 40 days.

Sony was able to do this because of its decision to launch the smartphone earlier than some of its competitors releasing similar devices. Most tech enthusiasts did not expect it to do this well, but hitting the market before other handsets, such as the Galaxy S4 and HTC One, gave the Xperia Z a significant advantage.

The Xperia Z also features a waterproof design that many customers are attracted to. One of Sony's ads in Prague for the smartphone involved a woman showering and using the Xperia Z.

The Sony flagship smartphone features a 5-inch, 1080p display NFC (near-field-communications), 13-megapixel main camera and, that sought-after water-resistant exterior.

Other specifications on the Xperia Z include a 1.5GHz asynchronous quad-core Snapdragon S4 processor with 2GB RAM, one-touch mirroring and 4G LTE.
