'Star Wars 7' Character Details, Update: Lupita Nyong'o, Andy Serkis' Characters' Details Unveiled; Film's Running Time Disclosed?
As days roll by, the hype geared towards the arrival of Disney and Lucasfilm's latest big screen offering, "Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens," just keeps getting stronger, and as the opening day nears, more and more information about the film are surfacing.
The most resonant of which concerns the details of the "performance-capture characters" played by Lupita Nyong'o and Andy Serkis, Maz Kanata and the Supreme Leader Snoke, respectively.
J.J. Abrams, who helmed the upcoming film, tells Entertainment Weekly for its latest Star Wars issue, that the Oscar-winning actress' character is an old, ex-pirate.
He divulged to the media outlet that the bespectacled little alien has "lived over a thousand years."
"She's had this watering hole for about a century, and it's like another bar that you'd find in a corner of the Star Wars universe," the director revealed. Aside from her origins, Abrams teased about the certain "special powers" that her goggles possess. Apparently, her eyes hold an "important aspect of her character" and fans should be on the lookout for it.
Aside from Nyong'o's Maz, the public is also anticipating to find out more of Serkis' character. The actor himself provided some overhead details for EW's special edition. According to the "Planet of the Apes" star, Snoke can be regarded as "quite an enigmatic character" that is both "strangely vulnerable" and "quite powerful" at the same time.
The leader, like most of the characters in the title, has also suffered a lot of damage but he has "a huge agenda" that needs to be fulfilled.
Serkis added that opposite to the theories circulating online, Snoke is a new character in the Star Wars universe.
"It is very much a newly-introduced character," the actor confirmed to the media outlet.
And lastly, for those who are interested to know how long the movie will run, the report from Slashfilm.com said that the final running time of "The Force Awakens" is 2 hours and 15 minutes. Although the picture has already been completed earlier this month, the publication said that Abrams and the crew still has to meet to put the finishing touches on its visual and sound effects, as well as to integrate the final score made by composer John Williams.
"Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens" hits theaters in North America on Dec. 18.
