Supergirl Fights Villain Vartox In The Premiere Episode Of 'Supergirl' On October 26

CBS Drama "Supergirl" has become one of the most anticipated television series. In the debut season, Supergirl will be facing a dreaded enemy from her home planet. Chris Vance has been cast as the Kryptonian villain Non, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "Supergirl" will follow the original "Superman" events.

According to TV Guide, Non had previously featured in the first two "Superman" films that had Christopher Reeves as Superman. He is the strong muscleman of General Zod, though slow on the uptake. But the Non in "Supergirl" seems to have gained in intelligence and is shown as a former scientist with the House of El who has evolved into a brutal military officer of Krypton. He will become a formidable foe for Supergirl.

There was initial scepticism that "Supergirl" will not attract the casual TV viewer if it has lots of melodrama. But with foes like Non, Supergirl will not have any time for melodrama. The new trailer released at the New York comic Con on October 10 has a defiant Kara deciding to use her super collection of powers to protect National City from its enemies. This puts Supergirl right into action mode.

The cast members of "Supergirl," Mehcad Brooks and Peter Facinelli, and Executive Producer Ali Adler spoke about the show's inspiration during the Comic Con. Adler said that "Supergirl" is not about a 'female' superhero, but a person whose sex does not matter when it comes to protecting her City.

According to Variety, Supergirl is not like other heroines in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Alias." Adler said, "We love 'Buffy' and 'Alias.' They were such strong bad-ass women. It's incidental that (Supergirl) is female. You won't forget it but, it's not the take away. The take away is that she's kicks ass."

The premiere episode of "Supergirl" showcased at the Comic Con had the nerdy-looking Kara turn up in Supergirl costume midway when she sees that it is upon her to protect her city from foes.

Kara Danvers, played admirably by Melissa Benoist, is Superman's cousin from Krypton. Like her famous cousin, she too is hiding her powers and working as an assistant to media mogul, Cat Grant, played by Calista Flockhart. When an alien menace strikes National City, Kara is forced to become Supergirl.

The action sequences where Supergirl delivers punches and blows to villain Vartox is really cool and will dispel any notion that "Supergirl" is sweet.

The highly anticipated "Supergirl" premieres Monday, Oct. 26 at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.
