'Switched at Birth' Season 4B Spoilers: Bay & Emmett part maturely, Lily & Toby deal with their decision to keep the baby
Season 4B of "Switched at Birth" has Bay and Emmett parting ways, though in a bitter-sweet way. Lily and Toby's story will move forward when they decide to keep their baby who has Down syndrome, while Daphne and Mingo realize the gulf between their respective parents is huge.
The season started with Bay and Emmett meeting at a trip to Mexico where they find that there are still feelings left for each other. Jealousy rears its ugly head and a tussle leads to Travis getting a black eye. Why did Travis get hurt in the love and jealousy between Bay and Emmett? Surely he has feelings for Bay that Bay is unaware of. Emmett returns to Los Angeles while Bay goes her way to Kansas City.
"Switched at Birth" is known to tackle some heavyweight issues that place people in conflicting situations. Earlier, the show had dropped a bombshell in the lives of Lily and Toby. Lily was pregnant with child who has Down syndrome, and Toby is the child's father.
A debate immediately began – should Lily keep the baby? Toby visits a school for Down syndrome children. He meets the beautiful kids and decides to keep the baby.
The decision to keep the baby will be dealt with throughout the season so viewers will know what Lily and Toby are in for. Though it will not be the main story of the season, it will show Lily and Toby's anxieties. Executive Producer Lizzy Weiss explains to Zap2it, "The reality of the fears and stresses and insecurities that I am sure rise when you are carrying a baby that's different from you — we keep that present and keep the reality of how Toby and Lily as the baby is growing inside of her feel about it."
The next week's episode will see Daphne and Mingo have an awkward dinner party with their parents when they realize that Mingo's father is responsible for John's financial mess. Bay unexpectedly meets Tank. Tank tells Bay that it is so terrible to be seen as a rapist. Viewers can see that Tank is a tortured person inside.
Dealing with such nuances have made "Switched at Birth" a show that is different than others. Catch the Season 4B episodes on ABC on Mondays at 8 p.m.
