Top 10 Best-Selling Games in the US for August 2017 Revealed
The top 10 video games in the U.S. for the month of August have been revealed, with some titles living up to expectations. One game, on the other hand, still continues to surprise even after all these years.
Developed by EA Sports, the game is the 29th installment of the "Madden NFL" series and was released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 consoles.
According to Gamespot, the best-selling game for August did not really come as a big surprise. The game took the top spot for both the PS4 and Xbox One top 10 list. The surprise, on the other hand, came from "Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V)." The game developed by Rockstar secured the second spot nearly four years since its release.
"GTA V" finished second among Xbox One games while it ended in third among PS4 titles. Following "GTA V" in the overall list is "Uncharted: The Lost Legacy" by Naughty Dog at third, "Splatoon 2" at fourth, and "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" at fifth.
Finishing sixth was "Rainbow Six Siege" by Ubisoft Montreal, followed by "Mario Kart 8" and "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered" at the seventh and eight spots, respectively. Rounding out the list are "Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy" by Activision at ninth, and "Overwatch" by Blizzard at 10th.
Meanwhile, NPD Group also revealed that the Nintendo Switch was the best-selling console in the U.S. last month. "The Nintendo Switch has been the best-selling platform in four of the six months since launching in March 2017," said NPD analyst Mat Piscatella. The PS4, on the other hand, still holds the "best-selling platform" title in terms of year-to-date comparisons.
Moreover, VGChartz reported that despite the strong showing of the two leading consoles, overall hardware sales continued to dip. The numbers dropped six percent to $168 million, year-over-year.
