World Association for Christian Communication Supports Non-Sexist Communication in Media
The World Association for Christian Communication (WACC) recently stated that it was fully supporting a plan by an Argentinian university to bring together journalists and other media types to advance the cause of non-sexist communication within the media industry.
The plan, which was introduced by Argentina's National University of Entre Rios, calls for the development of "subjective construction of gender in the media."
The university's School of Communication was tasked with developing a seminar to highlight the initiative and also calls on the country's Network of Journalists for Non-Sexist Communication to put together the seminar.

The seminar will be developed around topics such as communication, gender and subjectivity, the importance of non-sexist language in the media and gender violence and the media. There has not been any official announcement as to when the seminar would take place.
"The fact that students of communication will have the possibility of discussing themes such as the importance of non-sexist language in the media is an important step since it opens new horizons and ways of understanding journalism," Rev. Karin Achtelstetter, WACC's General Secretary, said in a statement.
The global president of the WACC, Dennis Smith, has also voiced support for this new endeavor and was also among those who supported its creation.
The Network of Journalists for Non-Sexist Communication brings together nearly 200 journalists in Argentina and was developed with the help of members from the WACC's Latin American Regional Association to raise awareness of the impact of stereotypical and biased reporting on women.
The Argentinian group, Asociacion Civil de la Azotea, is a non-profit established in 2003 by a group of women and men committed to creating alternative media for people and groups on the fringe of traditional mainstream media.
The network organizes national annual conferences with the next one happening in the Argentinian city of Mar del Plata from September 14 to 16.
