ZTE Geek Debuts With Intel Atom 2GHz Processor
Chinese smartphone maker and systems company ZTE debuted the new Geek handset in its home country this month.
This new device features top-of-the-line specifications and rivals some of the current smartphones including the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 2. One of the most impressive components on the Geek is its 2GHz Intel 32nm Atom Z2580 processor.
The Geek actually debuted at the Intel Developers Forum in Beijing China where ZTE was able to show off the power of this impressive device. Its other specifications are also nothing to underestimate. The Geek enters the new school with a 5-inch display and runs Android 4.2, JellyBean. The HD screen has 1280x720 pixel resolution.
Other specs include an 8-megapixel back camera with LED flash, a 1-megapixel camera in the front, a 2,300mAh battery, 8GB of storage, and 1GB RAM.
ZTE recently expressed its interest in targeting the more high-end market. The Geek falls right in line with those plans and the company also announced two other devices close to top-of-the-line, including the ZTE Grand S and the Grand Memo.
None of these higher-end ZTE handsets have been released in the U.S. at this time. The Grand S is expected to launch stateside sometime before the end of this year.
However, a lower-end ZTE device has made its way to the U.S. with the ZTE Director which is now available through U.S. cellular. This device can be purchased through the carrier for only 1 cent after users sign a two-year agreement. It costs $99 without a contract.
Specifications on this device to no surprise would have been more impressive in 2011 as it comes running Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. It also features a 3.5-inch HVGA touch screen, 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal memory, and is powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm processor.
