Amanda Knox Latest News: Letters to Pen Pal Describes Prison as 'Torture'

Letters between Amanda Knox and a pen pal have revealed new information about her time spent in prison, which Knox described as "torture."

Know wrote over a thousand letters in jail and received mail from fans asking to marry her, according to a Daily Mail report.

"Why am I here? It is really torture. I am being tortured. It is not right. I'm suffering so much," the 24-year-old wrote to her mystery pen pal named Maurizio.

Knox also wrote: "I often think why am I here ? Why can't I be with my mum? Why am I in jail ? I am 20 years old, I have never committed a crime. There is no sense to this. How can they say I need to stay in prison because I am a danger to the people around me? When above all they do not know the truth!"

The letter was written in April 2008 after an Italian Supreme Court ruled to keep her in jail. Other letters sent were published by an Italian magazine, Diva e Donna.

Letters of support from her family in the U.S. made her very emotional while in prison.

"In all this chaos it's hard for me to remember that I'm going to be alright," Knox wrote.

She also reveals how she spent her time in jail.

"Anyway I am studying so much, I even started reading Italian poetry....I pass the time reading books and singing (I am still in isolation) so when I get my fresh air time I get plenty of sun but I am still so very, very white."

Knox never mentioned Meredith Kercher, who was found with her throat cut in the bedroom of the house she and Knox lived in.

The University of Washington undergraduate moved to Italy in 2007 to study at the University of Foreigners in Perugia for a year.

Knox was arrested in late 2007 and convicted for the murder of Kercher in 2009. She served four years of a 26-year sentence before the decision was overturned in October 2011.
