'American Idol' 2013 Boot Camp: Hopefuls Should 'Leave Boot Camp Fearless,' Says Carly Smithson
"American Idol" hopefuls will have an opportunity to sharpen their skills and prepare for the singing competition show with a three-day boot camp held in August. Season 7 finalist Carly Smithson will run the camp.
When discussing the "American Idol" boot camp with FOX411, Smithson said the camp will deal with singing, but also the pressures of performing and being on television.
"The main things hopefuls will take away are confidence and focus. We are also doing an improvement segment which is crucial to build confidence since nerves can kill even the best of artists," Smithson said.
She is taking her own idol experience and using it to create the ciriculum for the boot camp.
"The pressures of live TV can cloud your thoughts and hinder the quality of your performance. I've been victim to it many times and have even left the stage totally bummed and questioning what just happened. I want my students to leave boot camp fearless," the season seven finalist explained.
Joining Smithson as the camp staff are a number of music industry professionals who will instruct "American Idol" hopefuls on a range of topics from style to social media.
Former "American Idol" stylist Art Conn will instructing participants, as well as former "Idol" makeup artist Roxy Saffaie, FOX411 reported. Also on hand will be several of the show's finalists including Michael Johns, Brookie White, and Melinda Doolittle.
There will of course be an emphasis on voice training, and vocal coach Mark Renk will be on staff at the boot camp.
Auditions for the next season of "American Idol" run from late July through August.
