Carl's Jr. Pop-Tart a Sweet Treat or Caloric Nightmare?
Carl's Jr. has debuted a new sweet treat featuring ice cream sandwiched between a pair of icing topped Pop Tarts. The treat however, is not available everywhere just yet, and is currently undergoing a trial run in Newport Beach, Calif.
It's a "hand scooped strawberry Pop Tart Ice Cream Sandwich" as introduced by Carl's Junior. The cool treat is actually one strawberry Pop Tart with rainbow sprinkles and icing, cut in half, and then placed over one generous scoop of vanilla flavored ice cream. The treat will set Carl's Jr. fans back about $1.50.
But if such a treat even exists, Carl's Jr. officials are not speaking out about the sweet treat.
"We have a policy of not commenting on products while they are in test," a restaurant rep wrote in an e-mail to the Huffington Post.
The sweet creation was first spotted by the website "FoodBeast," which noted that the fast food chain has recently debuted similar items that include the Oreo Ice Cream Sandwich and a Chocolate Chip Cookie Ice Cream Sandwich. While the product may be available for test in other Carl's Jr. locations, it was unclear which locations those might be.
"I saw the same poster a couple days ago at the Carl's at Beach and Yorktown in Huntington Beach," one blogger said on the FoodBeast wall suggesting that other California locations were trying the item.
But other bloggers were less excited about the invention, suggesting that it appeared to look unhealthy.
"This has the potential to be a 700 calorie ice cream sandwich...Poptarts are over-rated IMP," the blogger wrote. "200 calories per pastry (and who only eats one?) and it's gone in 4 bites."
