Florida Prosecutors Submit $140,000 Inquiry for Casey Anthony Trial
The State Attorney’s Office of Florida is calling on Casey Anthony to pay over $140,000 to cover the prosecution costs associated with her case.
Prosecutors filed a 281-page inquiry of documents Thursday, listing the array of expenses associated with Anthony trial. Items listed in the expense sheet included airfare and hotel accommodation for witnesses and payments to experts.
The Orlando Sentinel details some of the expenses that were detailed in the Florida State Attorney General's filing:
- $20,551 for expert forensic entomologist Dr. Neal Haskell including $9,650 for his testimony.
- $1,005 for the deposition of Sheriff's Office Sgt. John Allen.
- $833 for the deposition of Sheriff's Office Cpl. Yuri Melich.
- $2,082 for the deposition of Cindy Anthony.
- $6,112 for expert in cell phone towers Charles Marth.
Anthony’s bill totals $141,362.
The State Attorney’s Office filing comes after an expense breakdown showing that work done by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Metropolitan Bureau of Investigation cost $82,000 were released earlier this week.
Both agencies are holding Anthony responsible for the expenses.
The State Attorney’s Office plans to address the payment of its prosecution and investigation costs at a hearing on August 25.
In addition, the Orange County Sheriff's Office, which headed the investigation, is expected to submit its own list of expenses incurred during the case.
Little is known about Anthony’s whereabouts since she was released from her 3-year prison sentence on earlier this month. Anthony was acquitted of murder in the death of her 2-year-old daughter Caylee but was convicted of four counts of giving false information to police in her current case.
The 25-year-old was released after a judge took into account the prison time she already served and other factors.
