Chris Brown and Rihanna Duet on 'American Idol': A Publicity Stunt?
Chris Brown and Rihanna are currently in talks with "American Idol" producers to appear together on the show this season. E! Online reported that the show's producers are proposing the two sing a duet together.
It would be the first time they have made a public appearance together since their very public breakup in 2009, which was initiated by an incident of domestic violence.
"They want Chris and Rihanna to reunite on the show," said a source close to the show.
Brown and Rihanna have just made appearances on each other's new singles, and have recently reconciled, though judging by the controversy which surrounded Brown's win at the Grammys this year, it is likely that critics would not approve of the collaboration.
Many are already saying that rekindling their abusive relationship is unhealthy and is a bad example to young fans who look up to them.
Brown has been trying to convince the world he has turned over a new leaf, tweeting recently about "LOVE and POSITIVITY." Though it's questionable if the singer is making much effort at all when he allegedly stole a fan's cell phone at a concert, which would put him in violation of his probation.
Rita Smith, executive director of National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, has warned that it's possible Brown's violent temper may not have changed since the assault on Rihanna three years ago.
After winning a Grammy Award on Feb. 12, Brown tweeted, "Hate all you want because I got a Grammy now! That's the ultimate **** Off!"
Smith said Brown's tweet indicated his mental state. "The response was fairly belligerent and didn't really indicate that he had changed much in the several years since the assault," Smith said in a statement on NME.com
It is speculated that the Rihanna and Chris Brown reunion is just a publicity stunt, and while it will spark debate, it will be questionable if it will make people tune in and watch.
