Demi Lovato Says It's God's Will She's Sober
Demi Lovato is recognizing that her sobriety is in God's will.
The 23-year-old singer-songwriter and actress took to Twitter to celebrate her official four years of sobriety.
"This last year I experienced so much life and too much death... But I made it through... Sober. #4Years #GodsWill," Lovato wrote.
The entertainer first revealed her previous struggles with cocaine use in a 2010 Access Hollywood interview. She detailed that her addiction was so strong, she could not go longer than 30 minutes without sniffing the drug.
"Something I've never talked about before, but with my drug use I could hide it to where I would sneak drugs. I couldn't go without 30 minutes to an hour without cocaine and I would bring it on airplanes," Lovato revealed."I would smuggle it basically and just wait until everyone in first class would go to sleep and I would do it right there. I'd sneak to the bathroom and I'd do it."
Aside from drugs, Lovato has spoken up about her issues with bulimia, cutting and being bipolar. In 2010, she was admitted into a rehabilitation program to begin her path of healing.
Lovato has been vocal about her faith for years and credited it with helping her through her rehabilitation.
"I'm not super religious, but I grew up Christian and I believe in God. When I'm in L.A., I don't talk about it that much because people are very judgmental, but I just feel like God gave me a voice, not just to sing with," she previously told Cosmopolitan. "He put me through those things, which seemed horrible at the time, but they were so worth it. With the obstacles I've overcome, I can help people."
While the singer is now sober and feeling stronger in her faith these days, the child star who used to appear on Barney recalled a woman of God prophesying about her fame. She previously told E! about the supernatural experience she had as an 11-year-old girl.
"I was like 'What is this?' but like interested at the same time and the lady who was speaking in tongues, she pointed at me and said 'Come here,'" Lovato recalled. "So she just put her hand on my head and started saying 'God says, you will be hero to thousands of people one day and it will be using some form of art.' And she said, 'Are you ready?'"
