Flavor Flav Arrested for Speeding, 16 License Suspensions and Weed; Released to Attend Mother's Funeral
Flavor Flav was arrested for speeding on the way to his mother's funeral, with police reports stating he was traveling 79 mph in a 55 mph zone. Authorities discovered that the former rapper's license had been suspended 16 times and also found marijuana in the vehicle, but Flavor Flav was released to attend his mother's funeral.
Flavor Flav's arrest came after he was zipping through Hempstead, N.Y. on the way to his mother's funeral in a black Hyundai, according to TMZ. The rapper, whose real name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., was pulled over by police officers, who found he had no license and multiple suspensions due to unpaid tickets. They also located a small amount of marijuana present in the car.
Flavor Flav was arrested and charged with felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and criminal possession of marijuana. However, the rapper was released later that day and given a desk appearance ticket because he told police he had to attend his mother's funeral.
Anna Drayton, who Flav credited with inspiring him to go into music, passed away on New Year's Eve.
"Hey everybody I just lost my mother Anna Drayton this morning new years eve she passed away and I'm gonna miss her. She lived good a good life," he wrote on Twitter.
"Thank you to everyone that's sending me blessings about my Momz," he posted later after receiving support. "I [appreciate] you all of you so much from me and my family."
Flavor Flav's legal woes are hardly over, though. He must appear at the Nassau County First District Court Jan. 28, and there was speculation that this latest arrest could affect another pending case he has in Las Vegas.
Drayton was accused of threatening his girlfriend's teenage son with a butcher knife. He has pleaded not guilty to felony assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment with a weapon, which could equal 12 years in jail.
Flav is currently free on bond, and the terms of his release state that he shouldn't have any more run-ins with the law. This latest arrest shouldn't affect the case, the rapper's lawyer Kristina Wildeveld told the Associated Press.
