Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4, KitKat Update Now Rolling Out
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 Android 4.4, KitKat update is now rolling out for users in France.
The update could be accessed through the KIES PC companion software. There is no information on an OTA rollout at this time. It is expected to hit other countries in the coming days and will be available on unlocked models first.
Carrier updates will take a bit longer as they need to go through more approvals and testing.
Android 4.4.2 brings various KitKat features to the device including support for cloud printing, NFC tap-to-pay support, all white icons in the status bar, full-screen album art, and the ability to put a camera shortcut on the lockscreen. The overall performance of the device has also been improved significantly.
The Galaxy Note 2 launched in the fall of 2012 and became one of Samsung's most popular products. The device features a 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 720 x 1280 pixels at 265 ppi. It also comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.9-megapixel front shooter, a Samsung Exynos 4 chip, 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal memory, and a 3100mAh battery.
The Note 2 originally launched with Android 4.1.1, JellyBean on board. In order to function with the Galaxy Gear Android 4.3 is required. The software will also need to be up to date in order to upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat. That version should be coming up once Android 4.3 roll out is complete.
The Galaxy Note 3 was released last year and runs Android 4.2 out of the box. It has been updated to Android 4.4 on many carriers.
Samsung is already planning the specs for the Galaxy Note 4 which will launch sometime this year. The new model will come with a fingerprint sensor and might feature an LCD display.
