HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat Update Rolling Out to Google Play Edition Soon
The HTC One Android 4.4 KitKat update should be rolling out to the Google Play edition soon. HTC has confirmed through Twitter that Google has sent them the KitKat code for that model of the handset.
"Good news, we've delivered KitKat code to Google for HTC One GPE," tweeted HTC USA. "Timing of push via PlayStore to be determined by Google."
HTC announced its plans to roll out the software for the Google Play edition and unlocked model within 30 days at the beginning of this month. The company also promised to have it out for the carrier models in just 90 days.
HTC confirmed that these original plans could still be carried out and users of the developer edition and unlocked models could see the update before the end of this month.
"Still on track for end of November with KitKat for HTC One Dev & SIM unlocked," tweeted HTC USA.
Although HTC did not mention the 90 day carrier update roll out, the other releases running smoothly will help that become more likely to happen for those who own the handset on contract.
HTC hopes to beat Samsung to the punch by having KitKat running on its flagship before it hits the Galaxy S4.
HTC could also be rushing to have the update out before it introduces the successor to the One which is rumored to launch in the first quarter of 2014, according to the latest reports.
The device is expected to be released on all four major American carriers by the end of that part of the year, according to inside sources who communicated this information with @evleaks recently.
Verizon will be getting a head start with this model as it was the last of the four majors to drop the original One.
