HTC One M8 Vs. Moto X: Spec and Feature Comparison
The HTC One M8 and Moto X are in very different leagues when it comes to specs, but each of these devices has a unique appeal for the Android market.
While the HTC One appeals to the high-end crowd, the Moto X allows users to get quirky by giving them Moto Maker, which makes the device fully customizable. Unfortunately the specs push it a little behind the original HTC One, which makes it even less of a competitor this time around, but that doesn't stop us from comparing the two flagship handsets. Let's see if the Moto X can still hold its own against the new HTC One M8.
Display
The Moto X comes with a 4.7-inch AMOLED display that has 1280x720 resolution at 312 ppi. The HTC One M8 comes with a 5-inch LCD display with 1920x1080 resolution at 441 ppi. Unfortunately the HTC screen outclasses the Motorola version in every way as even other AMOLEDs with similar numbers just don't look as good. HTC easily takes it in this area.
Processor
The Moto X comes with a dual-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Pro Snapdragon processor with 2GB RAM. The HTC One M8 packs a quad-core Snapdragon 801 chip. HTC's device is probably one of the fastest in the market at this point while Motorola's is sporting 2012 hardware. The company's X8 computing system does score it some points in this situation, but it still isn't enough to edge the new HTC device out. This area has to go to the One M8.
Extras
The Moto X made history as it is one of the first fully customizable smartphones thanks to Moto Maker. The ability to design the smartphone to your liking is not something that should be overlooked. The HTC One M8 comes with specular Beats Audio speakers and features sensors that allow for single-touch gestures that make using the smartphone very convenient. Motorola's strategy was a bit more innovative here, so it takes it in this area.
Software
The HTC One M8 runs Sense 6 with the latest version of BlinkFeed that improves on some of the features already found on the previous model. The Moto X comes with an integrated version of Android that is close to what you would find on a GPe or Nexus model. BlinkFeed is great for those who always want to be connected to various subject matter, but the Moto X will definitely appeal more to those looking for a pure Android experience.
Conclusion
Even with its outdated specs, the Moto X is still a great phone and with the next-gen model, it could become a real competitor for the current HTC One. But until that time, it will continue to be outclassed in almost every area by it. The One M8 is definitely the superior phone.
