iPhone 5 Release Date: iPhone 5 Already in Development, Set for 2012 Launch?

The iPhone 4S unveiling on October 4 has left many disappointed after months of speculation indicated that the iPhone 5 would be released.

Commentators have noted that the 4S is at heart, just an upgrade of the iPhone 4.

The outer shell has remained the same even though the device inside has undergone some changes.

Found in the iPhone 4S is an A5 dual-core chip, an 8MP camera that also shoots video in 1080p HD, an HSDPA upgrade that increases the phone's 3G speeds to 14.4Mbits/s, an iOS 5 upgrade and the new voice assistant, Siri.

Commentators are considering Siri the biggest development in the unveiling, but are not especially impressed with other new specs in the 4S.

Many would have preferred to see these specs saved for the iPhone 5.

Speculations that the iPhone 5 will eventually be released have not yet died down.

Many have noted that the majority of the rumors about the iPhone 4S have held true.

This may indicate that the remaining rumors about the iPhone 5 will also turn out to be accurate, such as the next generation smartphone having a tear drop shape, a larger screen and a thinner, rounder body.

Among the rumors, several analysts projected that there would be no iPhone 5 released this year, but that it could be expected in 2012.

MacRumors reported in August that a prototype of an Apple smartphone with the internal model number N94 had been leaked and linked the model number to the iPhone 5.

The iPhone 4 notably carries the model number N90, and the iPhone 4S is reportedly the N90A, as per a leak before Apple’s “Let’s Talk iPhone” event that detailed 4S production in Brazil.

Commentators suggest that signs are pointing toward the iPhone 5 still being in development and production.
