"The whole dress is embroidered in gold and feels very regal," Herrera told People magazine of the gown design.

Herrera revealed that her goal was to make Simpson look like a "beautiful golden girl" on her big day. She also added a blue ribbon to the inside of the gown.

"I always do that because I think it brings good luck," Herrera said.

The couple tied the knot before 250 close friends and family and among the guests was Simpson's younger sister Ashlee and her fiancé Evan Ross, actress Jessica Alba and her husband Cash Warren and Simpson's best friend CaCee Cobb and her husband Donald Faison.

The couple's children Maxwell, 2, and Ace, 13 months also played a significant role in the ceremony. Their son Ace was the ring bearer and their daughter Maxwell walked down the aisle as flower girl.

"We are overwhelmed with complete happiness and love having made our eternal commitment," Simpson and Johnson said in a statement.

"To say 'I do' in front of family, friends and, most importantly, our children has been the happiest moment of our lives," the added.

The newlyweds got engaged in 2010, five months after they began dating. The wedding marks second marriages for both as Simpson was once married to singer Nick Lachey while Johnson is divorced from Keri Johnson.

The couple initially hoped to wed in Capri, Italy, which reportedly holds fond memories for them, however, they decided that it would be "too much" to ask their friends to fly to Europe, Us magazine reported.
