Kim Kardashian and Kanye West Surprise Teen Leukemia Patient in Hospital

Kim Kardashian and her rapper boyfriend Kanye West took a break from jet setting to visit a sick teenager in a children's hospital recently.

After West, 35, returned from touring overseas he kicked off a weekend with Kardashian by visiting the Los Angeles Children's Hospital. There, the pair granted a surprise visit to Alexandrea Vizcarra, a 19-year-old patient with leukemia who is seeking a bone marrow transplant.

Vizcarra's mother, Nora, told NBC News that this is the second time her daughter has had complications with her illness.

"She's had a lot of complications this time around. It's very different now," Vizcarra said. "The first time around she was able to be at home more often. This time, this is our second home, now."

Although Kardashian and West reportedly surprised Vizcarra, this is not the first time the reality television star has shown her support to cancer patients. Kardashian has been vocal about preventing and eliminating cancer, after her father Robert Kardashian Sr. passed away from esophageal cancer in 2003.

"Not a day goes by when I don't think about him. I wish we knew a little more about the disease," Kardashian said during the Gabrielle's Angel Foundation for Cancer Research charity event last October. "He wouldn't even tell his parents he was sick. He didn't tell them until like a week before he passed away."

According to the socialite, her dealing with the loss of her father and West dealing with the loss of his mother due to cosmetic surgery complications in 2007 has made them closer.

"I can really relate to his mother passing," Kardashian told media proprietor Oprah Winfrey in a recent interview. "He can really relate to my father passing. I mean, there's so many similarities in our life that ... I feel like I'm at a really happy, good space.'"
