Matthew Knowles Teaching Music Industry Seminar
Matthew Knowles, the 63-year-old father of singers Beyonce and Solange Knowles, is offering a course about breaking into the music industry to hopefuls in Houston.
Matthew, the president and chief executive officer of Music World Entertainment in Houston, has decided to bring a course to Houston Community College next September called "The Entertainment Industry: How Do I Get In?" While the course will meet for 5 hours at the community college Matthew attended to learn the business that would help make his daughters stars, it comes at a cost of $300 with a 300 seat limit.
Matthew spoke about what people interested in the September course can expect to learn.
"I've been in the music and entertainment business more than 20 years, and I know how it works," Knowles said in a statement. "I am able to save someone who wants to know what to do a lot of legwork, time and money."
In a recent interview with Biz Journals, Matthew revealed how his daughter Beyonce and her Destiny's Child group losing on star search motivated him to take classes to learn the business.
When the girls were on 'Star Search' and didn't win, I asked Ed McMahon, 'My girls are crying, what do I tell them,' Knowles recalled. "And he said, 'Everyone that consistently wins, when they finish, you never hear from them professionally.' Those that lose, some go back, refocus, rededicate and make important changes."
He added, "so that's when I got involved, went to school and went to every seminar."
Matthew's seminar is scheduled for Sept 13, with more information on the Houston Community College website, hccs.edu.
After the 32-year-old Beyonce spoke about her defunct business relationship with her father last year on "Oprah's Next Chapter" and her documentary "Life Is But a Dream," Matthew reportedly followed suit.
"This was not a normal ending of a business agreement," Mr. Knowles told The Sun last year. "This was a dad and a daughter, and it was incredibly painful and it had some difficulties."
