Michelle Williams Thanks Daughter, Opens Up About Heath Ledger

"My Week With Marilyn" star Michelle Williams has delivered a heartfelt thank you to her daughter, Matilda, after receiving an award at Sunday's Golden Globes.

Williams took the stage at the 69th Annual Golden Globes ceremony to accept the Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical award. The actress told the audience that none of her work would be possible without her 6-year-old daughter Matilda.

Born in 2005, Matilda is the daughter of the late actor Heath Ledger, to whom Williams was briefly engaged to during their relationship from 2004-2007. The Australian actor died on Jan. 22, 2008, from an accidental "toxic combination of prescription drugs," The New York Times reported.

In a recent interview with GQ magazine, Williams explained that her career was put on hold following Ledger's death.

"[Paparazzi] was making me crazy. I felt like I was going crazy," Williams explained. "It was too much -- trying to deal with what had happened and trying to deal with what was at our doorstep."

The actress continued to share that her main battle was protecting her daughter Matilda, and that "trying to find ways to explain it or shield" the child from the news was nearly impossible.

"It's like you're trying to go about your life, and make dinner… but the roof is off of your house, and the walls are falling down," Williams explained to the magazine.

When asked about Ledger, Williams said that reuniting with him is "one of my favorite things to imagine."

Williams' portrayal of the iconic Marilyn Monroe has earned the actress positive critical acclaim and numerous acting awards. She is currently filming the upcoming movie, "Oz: The Great and Powerful."
