Moto X Android 4.4 KitKat Update Available in New Verizon Soak Test
The Moto X Android 4.4 KitKat update is now available to Verizon users in a limited soak test.
This means that only select users will have access to it right away. It is a necessary step to make them able perform a full roll out before the end of this year.
The official release could start within a matter of weeks or less, according recent statements from Motorola. Soak tests could last anywhere from a few days to over a month. Verizon could be doing this in order to ensure that the software runs properly on the device.
This also shows that Verizon will be one of the first U.S. carriers to bring KitKat to the Moto X. T-Mobile should second in line as its software already leaked onto the internet with AT&T and Sprint following behind them.
Android 4.4 KitKat was introduced by Google earlier this month alongside the brand new Nexus 5 smartphone.
The software is designed to be installed on a wide range of devices including older models that only have 512MB RAM.
"KitKat streamlines every major component to reduce memory use and introduces new APIs and tools to help you create innovative, responsive, memory-efficient applications," said Google on its developer's website.
The software is designed to protect system memory from apps consuming large amounts of RAM. Android will launch the services serially, or in small groups in order to avoid peak memory demands.
New features on the OS include enhancements such as restyled status and navigation bars, a new full-screen mode, color emoji support, improved closed captioning support, stronger security, and an improved phone app with the ability to look up contacts directly from the dial pad.
The camera will gain a touch to focus feature as well.
