Motorola Droid Razr Release Date: Ice Cream Sandwich Coming Early Next Year
At today's second press conference for Motorola, the cellphone maker announced that the "Ice Cream Sandwich" operating system would be coming to the "Droid Razr" in early 2012.
Alain Mutricy, SVP of portfolio and product management at Motorola, confirmed this announcement at today's press event in the U.K.
Motorola's Droid Razr, which is touted as "the world’s thinnest 4G smartphone," comes with some very interesting specs and features.
It measures 7.1mm thick and sports a 1.2 GHz dual-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 4.3-inch super AMOLED advanced QHD display, am 8-megapixel rear camera capable of shooting 1080p video and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
Motorola Mobility president Sanjay Jha talked about the smartphone's syncing system, MotoCast: "You can stream content from your computer straight to your pocket (or purse) so your personal content is always within reach. And, because you don’t have to upload to a third-party site, you’re saving time while gaining peace of mind. That’s right - your files stay safe because they stay with you."
The smartphone will be available in the U.S. for $299 from Verizon Wireless with a two-year contract.
Android's latest OS, Android 4.0, "Ice Cream Sandwich" was unveiled earlier today at the "Samsung Mobile Unpacked: Google Episode" media event.
Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich also comes with a host of new specs, including, a new custom typeface called Robato, a completely touch screen UI, a lock screen featuring Face Unlock, and Android Beam, an NFC technology that allows users to share information by touching their phones together.
Samsung's "Galaxy Nexus" smartphone will be readily capable of running the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
The Galaxy Nexus features a 5 MP camera with LED Flash, zero shutter lag, fast shot2shot and 1080p Full HD video recording, updated mobile services such as Gmail, YouTube and Calendar and specific NFC features such as an accelerometer, a compass, gyro, light, proximity and a barometer.
The Ice Cream Sandwich powered Galaxy Nexus will release in November on Japan's NTT DoCoMo network.
