Motorola RAZR Release Date: An Early First Look
After much anticipation, the Motorola DROID RAZR has been announced before expected, set tentatively for an early November release.
The Motorola RAZR (rumored before to be called the Spyder or Droid RAZR) has many of the specs Android users have been speculating about. It boasts Verizon’s LTE, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor running Android 2.3.5, a 43.-inch Super AMOLED qHD display, Bluetooth 4.0 capabilities, and an 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video capture potential. In addition, it has 16GB of storage space, 1GB of memory, and an included 16GB microSD card, which effectively doubles the RAZR’s capacity.
To create a mobile phone resistant to daily wear and tear, Motorola protected the screen with Gorilla Glass (anyone with an iPhone 4, Droid, Galaxy tab or Dell Adamo is familiar with this chemically tempered monitor) and Splash Guard. Kevlar fibers also protect from the nastier drops and falls possible with the RAZR.

Motorola’s new gadget is only a mega-thin 7.1 mm thick which is, in laymen’s terms, about five dimes stacked together. Its total weight is only 125g which-in addition to making it one of the thinnest smartphones, especially among LTE handsets-makes it one of the lightest too.
The RAZR also sports technology to optimize user interfacing. The Motorola Smart App allows users to avoid being bogged down with tedious settings, like resetting reminders or putting the phone on vibrate. The Motocast App lets people stream music, pictures and documents from a home or work computer, freeing up phone storage for other things. Finally, Webtop (with Motorola’s Lapdock accessory, sold separately) allows a user to see their phone interface on a TV screen or computer monitor with 4G speed.
As with most Verizon LTE phones, the Motorola RAZR isn’t cheap at $299.99. Pre-orders start October 27th, which means this handset will be competing with the HTC Vigor/Rezound and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus (or Nexus Prime) this holiday season.
