Neil Patrick Harris Confirms 'How I Met Your Mother' Last Season
"How I Met Your Mother" star Neil Patrick Harris has admitted that he hopes season 8 will be his last with the popular television series.
It has been rumored that the season of "HIMYM" currently being written will be "like it's the end," according to the show's producer Craig Thomas.
But, the producer added that writers are preparing for a possible ninth season as a back-up plan, reported DigitalSpy.com.

A ninth season is very unlikely though, as revealed by Harris, who plays Barney Stinson on the CBS series.
"Our contracts end at [Season 8], so it's one of those, you know, if they want to do 9, they're welcome to, but we have a lot of other things [happening]," the 39-year-old actor told Access Hollywood.
Harris explained that like many of his costars, he has scheduled many upcoming projects that will require his full time.
"Cobie [Smulders] has got 'The Avengers' that just made a billion dollars, Jason [Segal] makes a ton of movies, I'm anxious to move east and Josh [Radnor] is directing and acting in movies as well," said the actor. "So, we all are anxious to move forward."
Moreover, the Emmy Award-winner admitted that the only way the "HIMYM" cast would agree to a ninth season of the show would be if they received ample raises in pay.
"The only way I think a Season 9 or any longer would happen would be [if it were] financially right- that's the reality of it," said Harris. "We love the show, we love doing it- eight years is a long time and we're as happy a family as we've ever been."
The highly anticipated eighth season of "HIMYM" premieres Monday, Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.
CBS also recently announced that "Reno 911" star Joe Lo Trugilo will guest-star on one episode of "HIMYM" this season.
