Nexus 7 2 Release Date Originally Scheduled for May?

The Nexus 7 2 release date was originally scheduled for May 2013.

Google intended to launch the device earlier in the spring, but had to delay it due to first-generation Nexus 7 stock, according to a new report from DigiTimes.

Google was supposed to unveil the tablet at Google I/O which is the same place that the original model was introduced just one year prior. The company reportedly had concerns with inventory of the first gen model and pushed the release back. Retailers have slashed their prices on the original in order to bring in its successor in recent weeks. They appear to be trying to clear out their existing Nexus 7 stock before offering the new version.

The Nexus 7 2 is now expected to launch on July 31 and will run Android 4.3, JellyBean out of the box, according to Engadget.

The site also released an updated list of specifications for the tablet that includes a 7-inch display, a 15.GHz quad-core processor, 32GB of storage, a 5-megapixel rear camera, a 1.2-megapixel front camera, a 1080p output and wireless charging capabilities.

The publication stated that the July 31 release date is confirmed for Staples with the tablets expected to arrive in stock on July 24. Google should have it available around the same time.

Retailers normally receive products days before their release date so this is really not surprising. The new Nexus 7 will be slightly more expensive than the original version retailing for $269.99, according to more information found in these photos.

Other pictures of the actual device were recently leaked to Android Central. The new version happens to look almost identical to the original model. Google could also decide to launch its new Android 4.3 software at the same event where the new tablet will be unveiled.
