Prince Charles Taking on More Royal Duties, Prepping to Be King
Prince Charles is preparing to become King by taking on more royal responsibilities and merging offices with his mother, Queen Elizabeth II. His children, Princes William and Harry, are also taking on more royal duties and making more appearances in an effort to relieve Queen Elizabeth of so much work.
"A number of members of the Royal Family support the Queen in her work, and it's better to coordinate the communications around that to have everyone here working on the same team," a royal source told People.
While Charles and Queen Elizabeth's offices merge, the press teams have not, just yet anyway. But when they do, it will likely be under the responsibility of Sally Osman, Prince Charles' communications secretary. This will allow for better communications and scheduling between the two offices. Also included will be the inclusion of William and Harry, who are likely to pick up more duties along the way.
"It was always the plan to wait until Prince William was settled before making any major changes," Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of "Majesty" magazine and an expert on royal life, added. "Prince Charles has always been insistent his son should have as much family life as possible before taking too many royal duties. Combining the two major royal offices makes perfect sense. It is time Prince Charles eased the burden on his 87-year-old mother and she has finally agreed he can do so. Therefore, William and Harry have to do the same for their father."
Prince Harry recently announced that he would be resigning from his duties as a pilot in order to manage relations between the Army and the royal family, including scheduling appearances. It is a major step for the Prince, who has always enjoyed being active in the military and served on the front lines in Afghanistan.
Prince William and Duchess Kate are also busy making more appearances on behalf of their charities and the royal family after settling into Kensington Palace.
